Ordinance for Bigger Legal Protection to Corona Warriors
Due to persistent attacks on health care workers battling against Covid-19 pandemic, the government has approved an ordinance (Epidemic disease ordinance 2020) to make such attacks a non-bailable offence, accelerate investigation, imprisonment of seven years to those convicted and enforce stringent penalties on damage of property.
The decision for ordinance came after a cabinet meeting on Wednesday due to assurances of safety promised by home minister Amit Shah and health minister Harsh Vardhan to the Indian Medical Association (IMA). Home minister also sent an advisory to state governments to ensure safety of all the health care workers and to take strict action against any person hindering the functioning of health care workers, and performance of their last rites.
Prime minister Narendra Modi tweeted “The Epidemic Diseases ordinance,2020 is our commitment to protect each and every health care worker who is bravely battling Covid-19 on the frontline. It will ensure safety of our professionals”. He also emphasized that there could be no compromise on the safety of health workers.

Medical fraternity has welcomed the ordinance. This ordinance was the need of the hour to ensure protection to our corona warriors.
