Since ancient times, turmeric has been well-known for its amazing medicinal properties and we don’t need any rocket science to understand it. Due to its superb healing properties it has been subjected to extensive scientific research.
Scientific research revealed that curcumin is the active ingredient of turmeric, responsible for its anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. This implies that, higher the amount of curcumin, higher will be the effectiveness of turmeric. This is the reason for the increasing demand of Lakadong turmeric, the most effective variety of turmeric among all. This turmeric is grown in Meghalaya, a north-eastern state of India and is cultivated in a small region of Meghalaya called Jaintia Hills. It is the most sought-after variety due to its high curcumin content of 8% which is significantly high as compared to other traditional varieties of turmeric, which have a curcumin content ranging from 1% to 3%. For this reason, it is very hot among medicine and supplement manufacturers due to its high efficacy. Other varieties of turmeric grown in Jaintia Hills are Lachein and Ladaw and each is distinct in its own way.
Turmeric can be used as a daily supplement or can be added in milk. It helps raise body’s immunity against cold and seasonal infections.
Please do remember that turmeric comes under the category of warm food and for this reason it might not suit everyone, especially people with so called “pitta dosha” ( according to Ayurveda). Therefore, it is recommended that start its use with minute amounts to check if it suits your body or not.
